Judicial Corruption in Luzerne County - Selling Kids for Cash (Anatomy of a Public Interest Lawsuit)

On October 29, 2009, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court took the unprecedented step of throwing out thousands of juvenile court cases that were tainted by an alleged kickback scheme involving two former Luzerne County judges who are accused of collecting $2.6 million over several years from detention center owners in exchange for sending kids off to detention, often without counsel.

Marsha Levick, Deputy Director and Chief Counsel, Juvenile Law Center, will tell the incredible inside story of how she and Juvenile Law Center attorneys uncovered the scandal, and brought successful legal action to restore justice to thousands of
young people whose lives have been torn apart by this alleged judicial corruption.

Training for students interested in participating in pro bono opportunity as follows. Sullivan & Cromwell is co-counsel with the ACLU on the Arkansas Adoption matter. We are representing several families and individuals in a pro bono lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Arkansas's voter initiated ban on fostering or adopting by unmarried cohabitants (Act 1). Pursuant to a court order, we've received over a million documents which need to be reviewed by "independent reviewers" who will review the document to see if relevant to the litigation.
